About

Background

Last year I was invited to sing for the UN Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking in Vienna, Austria. I was enthusiastically optimistic about the opportunity and eager to learn more about a subject yet unfamiliar to me. My enthusiasm, however, was quickly overshadowed by the horrors of what I learned.

According to the United Nations 2009 report: Every 30 seconds, a little child is inducted into slavery. Nearly 60% of people in slavery are children and over 80% of people living in slavery are used as sexual slaves. A drug can only be sold once, but a person can be sold over and over again in the same night, that is why trafficking has become the 2nd most profitable illegal activity in the world.

My friend Theresa didn’t know that! After moving to a new town and being befriended by a popular boy in her class, she was exploited and abused. She was sold several times a week, to numerous men each night for two long years of her teenage life in Detroit, Michigan.

When I returned home from Vienna and looked into the beautiful sparkling eyes of my own children I couldn’t bear the thought of standing by while others lived in terror.

My wife and I sold our home and used all the money we had to initiate a 500 mile run in chains across the United States and Great Britain to awaken the world to this magnitude of this situation.

Our goals are:
1) Raise $1 for each of the 27 million people living in slavery. This money will be used by non-profit organizations to rescue and rehabilitate girls like Theresa and to find and prosecute the perpetrators of human trafficking.
2) Create a global tipping point for the fight against modern day slavery.

PLEASE JOIN ME AS TOGETHER WE RUN 4 THE RESCUE!
